Yosemite's Tioga Pass Road to open on Monday

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. -- After a winter of light snow, a major road in Yosemite National Park is set to open on May 7, nearly six weeks earlier than last year. Officials say Tioga Pass Road will be cleared by noon Monday, allowing visitors to enter through the park's east gate. Tioga is the main eastern gateway to the park, and a popular, scenic east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada.

Yosemite National Park has installed the largest solar energy system in the whole United States National Park System. The system will provide 672 kilowatts which is 12% of the parks yearly electric power requirements. The system installed by Suntek (doesnt that name make you just want to hug a tree?) consists of 2,800 solar panels tastefully integrated into the existing architecture of Yosmites administrative and maintenance compound. Man falls to his death off Yosemite's Half Dome

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Yosemite National Park officials are trying to determine why a man fell to his death while climbing Half Dome Monday evening. Park officials tell Action News, search and rescue crews recovered the body of an unidentified man Tuesday morning at the base of the popular dome.
