Who should decide who’s fit to publish? Government? Politicians?

We’re never more than a step or two from tyranny. And the inclination to be tyrannical is buried not so deep beneath the surface even in the best of us. Who hasn’t longed to shut someone else up because the other’s message is so, take your pick, offensive, stupid, wrong, different, harmful, or even, correct? There’s much that’s wrong with journalism, and we spend a good bit of our day saying so, and pointing out its failings, particularly when those failing originate from the other end of the ideological spectrum. But what’s worse . . .

People of faith as ‘animals in a cage’

If you plan to be the keynote speaker before a group of award-winning journalists, be ready for some challenging and unexpected questions. That’s what Chris Cillizza discovered April 20 after giving a talk at the 2012 awards conference for the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association, held at the Four Point Sheraton BWI Hotel in Baltimore. When the well-known Washington Post political blogger opened the floor to questions, one journalist asked how Cillizza’s personal faith influenced his reporting. Obama wants a one-party media. (Obama to media - Obey)

resident Obama is trying to impose ideological conformity on the press. He is demanding that the media more favorably report his positions and present him as a pragmatic centrist. During a recent speech to journalists, he denounced their supposed equivalence on the burning issues of the day. Instead, Mr. Obama insisted that they portray his leadership in a more glowing light. He brazenly violated media independence, putting government pressure on journalists akin to that in authoritarian socialist states. “This bears on your reporting,” Mr. Obama said to the Associated Press. “I think that there is oftentimes the impulse to suggest...

Catholic Free Press columnists and falsity...

Falsity is the heart of immorality. And the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts has been crippled for years by the spirit of falsity. In a previous post, I said that: "Any priest who convinces those entrusted to his care to rationalize sin is no lover of souls but is instead an enemy of souls. When a person is encouraged to rationalize what is known to be wicked in the sight of the Lord, that person opens a chasm between themselves and God which continues to grow wider and wider until they can no longer hear His call and discern the word...
